Hikawa Maru Yokohama Japan

Constructed in 1930 by NYK Line for the Japan-Seattle route, Hikawa Maru served as a cargo-passenger vessel. Recognizing the need to construct superior ships in the 1920s to rival those from Europe and the United States, Japan embarked on this project.

At the time of its construction, Hikawa Maru was celebrated as a cutting-edge vessel. During World War II, it was repurposed as a navy hospital ship and remarkably survived three mine encounters without sinking. Post-war, the ship was reverted to its original cargo-passenger configuration and resumed operations on the Seattle Line in 1953, marking an impressive 30 years of service.

As an additional tip, I’d like to mention that you can catch a glimpse of the Gundam Factory and witness the Gundam in motion without incurring the 1,650 yen entrance fee, albeit from a distance.
